Plan A Lake Tahoe Family Friendly Vacation

Child on Zip Line in Lake Tahoe

Looking forward to trading in your skis for a swimsuit? Lake Tahoe is a year-round outdoor paradise with both winter and summer activities that invite the whole family to partake! Learn more about what makes Lake Tahoe a family-friendly destination for the summer months.

Outdoor Activities

Take a breath of fresh air while going on one of the many hiking trails North Lake Tahoe has to offer. One of the easier trails is Tompkins Memorial Trail. This Northstar-based trail has a variety of loops with varying difficulties through the Martis Valley. The trailhead is located off Big Strings Drive and is clearly marked. The hike meanders through beautiful meadows and gentle hills, making it great for kids.

Lake Tahoe is known for its beautiful clear waters, so why not go sailing? Tahoe City and Tahoe Vista are cities right off Lake Tahoe and each of them offers a variety of options to charter a boat and enjoy the clear waters.  In Tahoe City, you can go sailing on a 50-foot yacht with Tahoe Sailing Charters or enjoy a nice meal and cruise onboard the Tahoe Gal. In Tahoe Visa, charter the Wild Goose II with Grand Tahoe Waters. Sail this beautiful 36-foot Grand Craft Commuter Boat in style with your family this summer.

The beach at Kings Beach is truly king. Every summer the beaches are lined with beach towels and chairs so everyone can enjoy the California sun and Lake Tahoe’s beautiful waters. There are multiple locations along the beach where you can rent kayaks and paddleboards. The village of Kings Beach is your typical quirky beach town that is home to delicious restaurants, and cool shops. For a true beach party, book a stay for the 4th of July to enjoy the amazing July 3rd Drone Show and celebration on the beach!

Family-Friendly Attractions

KidZone Museum in Truckee is the perfect family-friendly attraction for those who have small children. This hands-on museum has a variety of different exhibits dedicated to helping your child learn through play. Your little ones can make mud pies in the outside nature play area or burn off some energy on the Indoor play structure.

Kings Beach Miniature Golf is a summer tradition for many who visit Lake Tahoe every summer. You'll have the option of the mountain course or the lake course. No matter which course you choose, you may run into some of the originally built obstacles from when the course opened in 1957. Maybe even try to find the hidden rock as you putt your way around the course to win a free round of mini-golf.

If your family is a little older, you could take to the skies at Tahoe Tree Top Adventure Park in Tahoe City, Tahoe Vista, or Olympic Valley. Navigate the aerial adventure parks through a series of wobbly bridges, tight ropes, rope swings, and so many more to get to the other side. Each of their locations has a variety of courses available all varying in difficulty. It will take you over 2 hours to get through all the courses and it will tire your entire family out!
